James R. Swartz, age 90, of Port Clinton, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2026, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was born October 18, 1935, in Bellevue and graduated from Townsend High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in El Paso, TX. James was an engineer for Norfolk and Southern Railroad, where he retired from. He was also a commercial fisherman and owner of Swartz Fishery in Port Clinton. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Bellevue Masonic Lodge #273.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Beulah Swartz and daughter Sandy (Larry) Palmer, Bethlehem, PA; sons Randy (Jennifer) Swartz, Catawba, and Scott (Sharon) Swartz, Sandusky; step children Dellynn (Ray) Smith, Bellevue and Jody Logan, Bellevue; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Thomas (Jackie), FL; and numerous cousins and other relatives.
James was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Emily (Rowe) Swartz; and step son Randy Logan.
Friends may call from 5-7 PM Friday, January 23,2026, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service 610 S. Washington St. Castalia. A private family burial will take place Saturday in York Chapel Cemetery, Bellevue.
